In the 21st century, these processes are performed by highly automated and high-speed computer-controlled machines.
A large sector of the textile industry crops fabrics for use in clothing. Usual fibres (such as wool, cotton, silk and linen) and artificial fibres (such as nylon, acrylic and polyester) are used. A rising interest in sustainable fashion (or “eco-fashion”) has led to greater use of eco-friendly fibres such as hemp.
High-tech synthetic fabrics are moisture absorbent (e.g. Coolmax), stain resistant (e.g. 303 Hi-Tech Fabric Guard), retain or dissipate body heat and resist fire, weapons (e.g. Kevlar), cold (e.g. .thinsulate) provides similar properties. , UV radiation (solar wave) and other hazards.
Fabrics are produced through dyeing, weaving, printing and other manufacturing and finishing processes with a wide range of effects. Along with fashion analysts, textile manufacturers work well before the garment production cycle to create fabrics with colours, textures, and other qualities that anticipate consumer demand.
